Plans for WrestleMania XL were changed, as Triple H has acknowledged, due to an injury sustained by a prominent WWE Superstar early this year. The 'Mania this year took place in Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field in April.
The Stamford-based promotion saw the Second City Saint make an unexpected comeback at Survivor Series: WarGames the previous year. Seth Rollins, the World Heavyweight Champion at the time, approached him and teased a fight in the weeks that followed his comeback. But the former AEW star has not been back in the ring since he tore his triceps during his first-ever WWE match that was broadcast on television at Royal Rumble in January.
WWE's documentary WrestleMania XL: Behind the Curtain was made available on YouTube today. Chief Content Officer Triple H talked about CM Punk's tragic injuries during the documentary.
"Everything is altered by it. The men's doubleheader title matchups are currently somewhat uncertain. Thus, as we begin to examine The Rock and Cody (Rhodes) matter, we must examine the Seth matter. Seth therefore sort of fits into it. Something wonderful will emerge from this chaos if you just let things happen and do not worry about it too much," Triple H stated. [Starting at 17:00]
In the main match of WrestleMania XL's second night, Seth Rollins faced Drew McIntyre to defend his World Heavyweight Championship. Although Damian Priest used his MITB contract on The Scottish Warrior to win the title minutes later at The Show of Shows, McIntyre emerged victorious.
